How does Papr process PDFs without uploading them to a remote cloud server?
Papr uses compiled client-side PDF manipulation and rendering engines (pdf-lib and Mozilla PDF.js) directly inside your web browser using HTML5 Canvas and WebAssembly. Your documents are read directly into your computer’s local RAM, modified in-place, and exported straight to your downloads folder. Zero document bytes are ever uploaded or transmitted across the internet.
How do I merge multiple PDF files without paying for Adobe Acrobat?
Simply open Papr in Organize mode or visit the Merge PDF page. Drag and drop all your PDF files at once. In the visual thumbnail grid, you can reorder pages into chronological order, rotate upside-down pages, or delete unneeded sheets. Click Export to download your unified PDF without paying monthly subscriptions.
How can I reduce a heavy scanned PDF under 25MB for a Gmail or Outlook attachment?
Switch to Compress mode in Papr and upload your heavy document. Select between "High Quality" (150 DPI, ideal for contracts), "Balanced" (110 DPI, ideal for presentations), or "Maximum Compression" (72 DPI, best for fitting heavy scanner scans under strict 25MB attachment ceilings). Papr will optimize JPEG streams and display the exact before-and-after byte count.
Is it safe to use Papr for confidential legal, financial, and tax documents?
Yes, 100%. Because all processing is local-first, no external party, database, or analytics tracker can inspect your files. Once you close or refresh your browser tab, your document is wiped from local memory.
Can I extract a single page invoice or tax sheet from a multi-page PDF batch?
Yes. In Organize mode, click the checkbox on the specific page thumbnail you need and click "Extract (1)". A new single-page PDF containing only that sheet will download immediately with original vector fonts and searchable text preserved.
How do I digitally sign a PDF contract on Mac, Windows, or iPhone without printing?
Open your document in Edit mode, click the "Sign" tool in the top toolbar, and draw your signature with your mouse, trackpad, or finger. Click "Apply Signature" to place a transparent high-resolution signature over the document’s signature line. Drag to position, resize if needed, and export your signed PDF.
Why can’t online PDF tools edit existing text like Microsoft Word?
Standard PDF files are compiled print matrices with fixed glyph coordinates, not reflowable word processing documents. Tools that claim to "edit existing text like Word" usually destroy font formatting, disrupt kerning, and misalign layouts. Papr offers an honest, reliable overlay editor: you can add new text blocks, draw shapes to whiteout or redact sections, place signatures, stamps, and page numbers cleanly.
How do I convert PDF pages into high-resolution JPG or PNG images?
Open Convert mode, upload your PDF, and select your target format (JPG, PNG, or WebP). You can convert all pages or specify a custom range (like "1-3, 5"). Enable "Bundle multiple images as single ZIP archive" to download all rendered sheets in a single organized ZIP archive.
How does password encryption work in Protect mode?
In Protect mode, Papr applies standard PDF 128-bit/256-bit password encryption directly using pdf-lib. The password is required to decrypt and open the file in any standard viewer like Adobe Acrobat, Apple Preview, or web browsers. If you load an encrypted PDF into Papr, you will be prompted for the correct password to unlock it.
Does Papr work offline without an active internet connection?
Yes! Once the application assets are cached by your browser, all PDF manipulation, merging, compression, and conversion tools function entirely offline without an active internet connection.
